FAQ

  • What is a Fleet Dashcam?

A fleet dashcam is either a road-facing, in-cab, or dual-lens video dashcam that attaches to the vehicle’s windshield or rear-view mirror, and records video automatically of risky driver behavior, risky events and accidents. Often times, a fleet dashcam can protect the business and the driver from frivolous lawsuits with nuclear verdicts since it allows easy access to an automated eye witness of the entire event, including pre-accident recordings.

  • Do I need to have DDD Fleet to use the dashcam?

To reach the solution's full protional… Yes, our SafetyCams are integrated and works hand-in-hand with our GPS fleet tracking devices; DDD Fleet; and our fleet tracking app, Azuga FleetMobile. With DDD Fleet and our SafetyCams, you get driving data from the vehicle as well as video from the dashcam.

  • When does the dashcam start recording?

The fleet tracking dashcam starts recording as soon as the ignition is turned on. It takes a few seconds for the camera and the OBD-II device to establish a connection.

  • Does the dashcam record when the vehicle is turned off?

No, the dashcam only records when the ignition is turned on.

  • What events are captured?

The fleet tracking dashcam captures hard braking, hardcore braking and sudden acceleration events. A panic button is provided for drivers to manually record events as well.

  • Can videos be live streamed?

Our SafetyCam AI Edition dashcam provides live video streaming capabilities, giving you real-time visibility to your fleet vehicles, drivers, passengers, and cargo.

  • Where are the videos stored?

SafetyCam uploads harsh driving events to the Azuga Fleet cloud and saves complete trip videos (40–70 hours) to the SD card.

  • Am I charged data fees to upload event videos to the cloud?

No, data is included in our low monthly service fee.

  • Is it possible to download and share event videos?

Yes, event videos are available in DDD Fleet (Breadcrumb and SafetyCam Dashboard views and in DDD FleetMobile, the fleet tracking app). Complete trip videos are available on the SD card.

  • Is lowlight or nighttime recording possible?

For the road-facing lens, SafetyCam uses natural ambient light and any artificial lights from the surroundings. For the driver-facing lens, there are four LED lights to support nighttime recording.

  • Can the dashcam record audio?

Yes, however, this can be turned off, based on customer preference.

  • How is the dashcam powered?

SafetyCam can be powered one of three ways:

    • Through the 12v auxiliary power outlet (not always on)—learn how to install the dashcam using this method here.
    • Hardwired to the vehicle battery
    • Through an OBD-II Y-cable

We can help you determine which option is best for your fleet of vehicles.

  • How is the dashcam installed?

Azuga SafetyCam can be adhered to the windshield or rearview mirror in seconds with our easy sticky pad.

  • How does the commercial dashcam help with driver safety?

By monitoring and reviewing video of harsh driving events, you gain a better understanding of why your drivers hard brake or accelerate suddenly. With this insight in hand, you’re able to coach your drivers more effectively, help them improve driving behaviors, and increase overall fleet safety.

  • If I install truck dashcams, will I receive benefits through my insurance company?

Yes! It’s possible to receive discounts through your insurance company when you install SafetyCam. Check with your insurance provider for more information.

  • Does the dashcam have distracted-driving detection and fatigue monitoring?

At this time, SafetyCam does not detect these types of high-risk driving behaviors. In support of our suite of driver safety features, we’re exploring this functionality as a SafetyCam enhancement.
